I ate at the Oddfellows last night, having not been for several years. Probably the best burger I've eaten, and the new wine list is fantastic. Brilliant

My wife and I enjoyed a really nice 4 nights at the Oddfellows Arms in Caldbeck. We received a warm welcome in the pub on a busy Saturday afternoon andwere shown to a compact but clean, comfortable room in the neighbouring annex. The room had been recently refurbished with an en suite shower room and the shower was great. We walked each day through beautiful countryside and are in the pub each evening. The menu and the food were excellent and good value.Breakfast was included in the room rate.We are happy to recommend the Oddfellows Arms to walkers and passing travellers. Dogs are also welcome!

The Oddfellows Arms was an excellent stay while walking the northern section of the Cumbria Way. The room was excellent with a good bed and en-suite with excellent shower. The evening meal choice was good and the food was produced quickly and was of excellent quality. Breakfast was available from 8am which is good for walkers. The breakfast choices were excellent and because they were made the previous evening the food was quickly provided in the morning. The Landlord was particularly helpful regarding a route closure and diversion on the Cumbria Way east of Caldbeck. Take his advice and ignore the closures - the issue is so trivial compared to much greater path problems elsewhere.

A couple of misadventures, coupled with extra muddy trails, kept us from reaching the Inn by evening on our walk from Keswick. After a night at Lingy Hut and a smooth walk north from there, we arrived at the Inn well past the point when the kitchen was shut down for breakfast. They made an exception, fed us breakfast and helped us figure a weekend bus schedule to leap frog to Carlisle.Everything was done with the best of good cheer and hospitality. If we can find a way to get back to this part of the world, we will figure out a way to make a stay here!Thank you!

Room was comfortable and had everything we needed. Nice decor and comfortable bed. The evening meal waslovely and it was nice to have a nicely cooked hot breakfast. The packed lunch however was poor for the price. Two slices of white bread with a bit of rocket and hardly any ham. I’d suggest that for the price the sandwiches need to be more hearty especially since most people are walking long distances.

Really lovely pub/inn in lovely location. Really welcoming reception on arrival. Good food and selection of fine ales. Be sure to book restaurant which was busy.Informative breakfast time host Bill on hand to explain the minutiae and vagaries of the Cumbrian way upon which route The Oddfellows Arms is located. Hearty breakfast lovingly prepared by Margaret. Comfortablerecently refurbished room. Can't give 5 stars because that would mean there was no room for improvement which I guess there is always something you can make better. So am awarding 4.9 stars.Pretty damn good nevertheless. I shall he back

We loved this pub/hotel. After a long hard walk it was great to be greeted by friendly helpful staff, a delicious pint in a welcoming cosy pub and then to go and collapse in our clean, tastefully decoratedcomfy room. Very well appointed ensuite, plenty of tea/coffee making options. We then had one of the best meals we had had during the whole week of walking. Would thoroughly recommend this pub. Top marks all round. Lovely breakfast the following day and helpful advice for the last leg of our Cumbria Way journey.

**Review: A Great Stay at a Charming Hotel**We recently spent three nights at this charming hotel and were thoroughly impressed. Our room, though small, was impeccably clean and tidy, with ample space to store our belongings for our short stay.Breakfast each morning was a highlight, offering a fantastic selection of delicious options. The man serving breakfast was incredibly helpful, providing us with numerous suggestions for planning our daily trips and routes. In the evenings, we dined at the hotel's pub restaurant. It was evidently a popular spot, so we wisely booked a table each night. The food was consistently fantastic, with a wide variety of choices to suit all tastes.Overall, our stay was wonderful. We would highly recommend this hotel and look forward to hopefully returning in the future.

Spent one night at the Oddfellows Arms as we were visiting from Canada. We were meeting up with an old family friend who had recommended the Oddfellows Arms as a place to stay and eat.The service was bang on, with everyone so warm and friendly. The rooms were gorgeous and were well equipped with everything you'd need for a comfortable stay. We had made a dinner reservation the evening of our check-in. Food was delicious and the selection of local ales were top notch too. Loved the Naked pork scratchings stationed up at the bar as well! Highly recommend and would 100% stay again when back in that neck of the woods.Ps. Shout out to the Owners' dogs Coco and Maple who were a an absolute delight!

Several members of the NFS who were holding a meeting in Caldbeck stayed at the Oddfellows Arms.Once the question of their tenancy had been settled, the management were helpful and took trouble to meet our requests when we requested a dinner for the whole group.Ordering presented one or two problems as there was no fixed price set meal and I had to coordinate and order on behalf of the group from a bewildering array of choices. However when the time came, the staff were exceptional welcoming and helpful. The fine weather and laid back, relaxed atmosphere of the village was a great help.We had a very enjoyable gathering.Sheila Everard ( Organiser)

Stopped at the Oddfellows Arms while walking the Cumbria Way. It's a lovely spot and the apartment rooms looked newly decorated and fitted and were very comfortable. Did our best not to track mud everywhere after a very long and wet day of walking! Was genuinely surprised at the extensive and exceptional menu which was much appreciated at the end of the day, as was the facility to order a packed lunch for our next day of travel. If you walking the Cumbria Way, or even just looking for a base to explore the northern lakes, I would heartily recommend!

I stayed here on business whilst working at Carlisle, tired of the boring chain hotels. Its only a short drive and you get so much more for your money.I also visit and stay in the lakes a lot and always try to visit new places and I will deficiently be back for both work and pleasure - If I was only allowed one highlight it would be Margaret's Breakfast and that fact she came in extremely early to cater for my early start and fussy diet - The Pub was very welcoming as were the locals - thanks

The refurbished rooms separate to the main building were very quiet and , excellent shower and comfortable bed. Both nights evening meals were excellent - pasta special, burger, steak and curry chosen - excellent quality and plenty of accompaniments. Breakfast was nicely served though some fresh fruit and yogurt would have been appreciated. Very good local poached eggs.Overall an excellent base in the beautiful well preserved village of Caldbeck.

I arrived at the Oddfellows, in the dark, after a 15 mile slog on foot from Keswick. Around 3 pm I'd been on top of High Pike at the same time as Storm Elin so I was drenched and well chilled. The welcome from pub staff and locals was warm, friendly and efficient. My room was cosy and had two belting radiators. I left the next morning with dry kit. Breakfast was tasty and, once again, the service was friendly. Oh,and I enjoyed the grilled cod, chips and peas in the evening. Caldbeck is a charming village. The Oddfellows is ideal for a break in the North Lake District. Our room was small but comfortable, the bar and outside perfect for a pint or two and an evening meal, as was the restaurant. The service, along with the food, was very good and it was nice to spend time chatting with the bar and kitchen staff at the end of the evening. I'd hope to stay again in the not too distant future, thanks to everyove at the Oddfellows Arms for a great break.

A warm friendly welcome from staff who's helpful, kind and thoughful attention continued through out our stay. A proper pub vibe which meant we enjoyed our evening meal and stayed longer for after dinner drinks given the warm welcoming atmosphere. The room was clean and nicely decorated, with the most amazingly powerful showers and very comfortable beds. We very much enjoyed our stay and will return to Oddfellows should we be back in the area.

Over recent years there has been a considerable investment put in to the place, particularly in the accommodation where most, if not all rooms have been upgraded. The showers are excellent and the beds clean and comfortableWe appreciated the improvements that had been made to the beer garden at the rear. A very pleasant place to sit on a sunny afternoon/evening!As regular visitors for many years it is good to see a rural pub doing well. The only downside was a substantial increase in beer/cider prices.....

Needs a tiny bit of tlc (toilet seat was only half attached, gap/damage in skirting board near bed needs repair). Some nice pictures on the wall and a comfy bed.Dinner in the evening was chefs curry with half chips and half rice...filling and good. Saturday night so a good few locals in the pub but after a day's walk from keswick I had an early night and slept v wellBreakfast in the morning was poached haddock with z poached egg after some cereals and a pot of tea... all good and nice to have a change from the full English.

We were made welcome when we arrived fresh from the Cumbria Way and very wet. After booking us in the young man asked if we wanted a table for dinner which we said yes to.We were given fresh milk for the room after we'd had a pint of their tasty real ale. Beautiful clean and comfortable room with a large double bed. The heating worked very well and the shower and bathroom were excellent. We we're shown to our table in the extensive and tastefully decorated and lit dining room. There were many tables but we weren't crowded at all. Our meal was very good. We had the beef pie, mash and vegetables. The extra slug of gravy was a very nice touch. Tasty bottle of merlot as an accompaniment too. A shared creme brulee as a dessert finished it off very nicely. We would highly recommend Oddfellows.

We arrived cold, tired and wet after an 18 mile trek, the latter stages with driving rain. We were made very welcome. The room was small, but then it is an old pub. The heated towel rail was full of air, but it was easy to bleed and we were able to dry most of our stuff. The radiator took an age to heat up. Great bed, shower, and a good night's sleep. Happy refueling with a nice glass of wine. Coming back in 3 months.

And the service very friendly. Same for breakfast. The village is really pretty as well.I’ve stayed there in a Saturday night and was a bit afraid of the noise but music stopped before 11pm which I found quite reasonable.I would come back here with no hesitation.

It was very busy for a Tuesday night. Good to see when the industry is struggling. My here breakfast was also very tasty (bacon and eggs). Will most definitely return for a little holiday here. The room was very comfortable, with a lovely new shower room, & away from the bar, so nice & quiet even though the bar was busy. The food was very good, & all the staff were very welcoming. The location is great, right in the centre of the village, & we'd definitely stay here again.

Arrived about 5.30pm walking the Cumbria Way. The pub was full but very welcoming. Room lovely as you would expect from an old inn. Booked a meal at 7.00pm but didn’t arrive until 7.45pm. Large dining room very busy on this Friday night. No problem, enjoyed the beers.

Very cosy well equipped bedroom.Beautiful dining room.Fantastic food.Really helpful staff. For the second time we were unfortunate in dining there when a big group, 15, were in.Social etiquette is dead. They were shouting at the top of their voices and laughing like a demented braying donkey in the restaurant. It was painfuland impossible to communicate unless we shouted too. This happened last time.I think, for large groups like that, a separate small, sound proofed function room is needed.Later, some of them sat outside at the back loudly shooting lines until very late. They could be heard even with ear plugs. You are free to do what you like up to the point at which it interferes with someone else’s right to do what they want.Responsibility and consideration are required.Unfortunately, my partner said that she would never stay there again. It is in such a beautiful quiet rural setting, but it was like Carlisle on a Saturday night!

Excellent dinner and breakfast and pleasant staff. The bedroom seemed a little tired - not sure if it is going through a refurbishment as the bathroom was new but the bathroom door and frame looked old and the door opened the wrong way in for the layout of the bathroom.

The staff were excellent as was the food. Lovely room and very clean.Only deducted 1 star as the room was booked at a price of £115, I paid a deposit of £10 so I was surprised when we came to leave I was told the deposit was non refundable and we still had to pay the full £115. So I do feel conned after what was a lovely stay.

...at the beginning might be a good idea. After a busy and exciting day house hunting, we were royally welcomed at the Oddfellows Arms, taken to a lovely room with sparkling cool white bed linen. Our rescue collie was also given the same warm welcome. This is just our sort of local pub we thought as we settled down in the bar for our evening meal.Dinner on so many levels gave us joy that only the weary traveller can maybe appreciate. My husband chose the topside pie looking for all the world as if a joint of the best beef was kitted out in a pastry overcoat... none of this pretend home made here.My chicken burger with all accompaniments was just what a lapsed (only for that night, mind!) dieter was looking for, nay desiring. It was blooming delish. Our puds were... his apple, sultana and cinnamon crumble, mine creme brulee which was oozing unctuousness.Husband's choices were closely followed by the four on the next table andchosen by them.He positively glowed at being such a trend-setter, we had a superb evening chatting with a pub full of cheery customers, staff on the ball and the general air of efficiency with the soul aim of making allcomers welcome.Coming from Ludlow a foodie town we both decided on the strength of our stay and the friendliness of everyone we talked to that we had made the right decision to move to this part of the world. We have found our local before we have finalised on our forever home. Wish us luck we will return...

We were warmly welcomed by Emma, who was most helpful in meeting our requests for changes to our accommodation at very short notice. She has a wonderful team in the bar and restaurant who were hard working and unfailingly polite. The Oddfellows has an iconic location in easy reach of the Cumbrian Way, the Caldbeck Fells and Carlisle. We have been staying there for many years.

It’s June 2022 and the shower room had been newly refurbished so the shower was amazing! Village was lovely too, all in all, a great place to stay.

The Oddfellows is in a beautiful village and outstanding countryside. All the staff I met in my brief stay. surprisingly 8 from bar staff, restaurant staff and cleaners were polite and pleasant. The room was clean and comfortable, nicely decorated and suitable for me. The food was excellent, the beer great and the local diners chatty to a brief visitor. The cost for 1 night B&B was very reasonable compared to others on my route. I was walking the Cumbrian Way so only had 1 night with an evening meal and breakfast but would highly recommend The Oddfellows Arms, Caldbeck. I'm actually thinking of reasons to go back.

I stayed at the Oddfellows Arms after a long stage of the Cumbria Way, and it was very welcome. The people working there were friendly (especially the gentleman looking after breakfast). We stayed for one night during a walking holiday. Our room was newly renovated and beautiful. However there were a few finishing touches that would have made it perfect, we’d suggest that staff spend a night to understand! The bed was up against the window with curtains that were too long and had to be pushed back onto the windowsill while we slept. The lovely large bathroom needed a towel rail near the hand basin. The rail to hang clothes was over the armchair so not the best place to hang anything.Niggles aside, we had a lovely night and slept really well. The bed was huge and extremely comfortable. We had dinner in the restaurant and the food was very good. Breakfast was also good and the service for both attentive.

I stayed here for three nights over the bank holiday weekend whilst walking the last couple of days of the Cumbria Way. Cosy bedroom was spotlessly clean, lovely and warm and with a comfy bed. We requested breakfast half an hour early on our first morning which was very kindly accepted. Perfect poached eggs three days in a row! We ate dinner here 3 evenings and each meal was great and plenty of it. Sticky toffee pudding was delicious! On top of all this, every member of staff who served us was so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Caldbeck is a lovely place where everyone we came across, locals and visitors were really lovely. Well done, I will definitely return.

We were walking the Cumbria Way, this is an ideal area as one of the stage finishes of the walk. We had an excellent welcome and was shown to our room. The room had a new bathroom with an excellent power shower. The room itself was quite small and the furniture tired, but still good, one downside was the mugs left in the room hadn’t been cleaned and showed ‘tea’ staining.I’m glad we booked a table for evening, Since it was busy. The staff and food were excellent, as was the breakfast the next morning. All in all a good stay, but quite pricey for the quality of the room

Lovely welcome to Oddfellows Arms after walking over hills in the rain from Keswick. Spotless, comfortable ensuite room in the annexe. Liked the breakfast choices - kippers and smoked haddock as well as usual cooked breakfasts. Went to look at the Hawk mill and waterfall before setting off again - a few things to see in the village of interest.

The Oddfellows Arms is situated in the centre of Caldbeck. A delightful unspoilt village. Plenty of parking available. The accommodation was comfortable, good bed, excellent power shower. The staff were all charming and helpful. Food, for a pub, excellent... be warned the twelve inch pizza is very big.Only flaw was being unable to get breakfast on our first morning, front door hadn't been unlocked, and no reply on the phone... an unfortunate mistake (The staff suitably apologetic later), but wouldn't stop us staying again.

So we enjoyed our stay very much but a few things that would be good to sort1. Rooms - no one got the rooms they booked I ordered a refurbished room got an older room - no shampoo in the shower it had ran out as had the toilet roll , some lights were not working bedside2. We were a group of 4 separate bookings but your staff allowed for an entire nights drinks to be charged to my room by another , many reasons why this is a cock up on your part not least of all fraud! But it caused embarrassing check out issues that were unnecessary .3. I was overcharged for drinks we didn’t have with our meal 2 x wainwrights at £4.25 and one 175ml of Sauvignon at £6.15 but it was so embarrassing at check out due to the issue above I paid and left to avoid the extra grief.4 the food was good but if I were you I’d tone down the out there titles. , no need to over embellish a great meal5 you keep superb beer I’d recommend you apply for the cask marque , you deserve it and can put us all down as referees, one of the best pints I’ve ever had and we spend lots of time all over the north staying over.Breakfast was great , but your morning lady is in a hurry and because of it comes across a little nippy which I’d rein back on as parting experience linger.Overall a great stay we would def come back perhaps with our entire club of 20 mature gentlemen who like spending money in Great places such as yoursWell done I hope you take the above constructively , if you ask for feedback I’m a strong believer in giving my truth. As I said it’s 4 out of 5 from meThanks and hope to see you againDF

we stayed in one of the newly refurbished rooms - only negative was that the bed was in front of the window so we had to climb on the bed to open or close the window, and having no headboard meant that the curtains fell behind our pillows so were pulled a bit as we leant on the pillows. perfect location to alk the cumbria way.

We stayed one night and had a very comfortable room (11, apparently it’s the best). We also had lunch and dinner, both of which were very good. Will definitely come back. Only slight gripe was that the check-in service said we could arrive from 1pm but when we arrived at 2pm were told the rooms are available from 4pm! Apparently their website is wrong… we’ll know for next time. Breakfast was very good and staff friendly and helpful.

We were travelling as a group of 5 cyclists. We were made very welcome and they went out of their way to find storage for our bikes in their secure garage. The real ales were good along with the food. The buffet breakfast could have been better but the lady serving us made up for that with her friendliness.

Had a great stay at the oddfellows even though there was a problem with the room this was sorted promptly and efficiently by the very friendly girl from behind the bar. Evening meal and breakfast were both excellent and the room spotlessly clean. Would highly recommend staying here and we will definitely stay again.Lisa, Mark and Lexie the springer

Stayed 1 night while walking the Cumbria Way & we were looked after really well. The food was especially good, evening meal & breakfast. The restaurant is especially nice with twinkly lights all around the room. Can't fault the experience except the shelving unit attached to the wall in our room. It sticks out quite far and both my husband & I banged our heads on it! If it had been made of a harder material we would have been seriously injured. I suggest it's taken down! Thank you.

Warm welcome, Cosy bedroom, Wholesome food. Very peaceful and Good value. I had never visited Caldbeck before, it looked a great place to explore, but it was a dark and miserable night, so I declined, stayed in the bar area and read my book and listened to all the local gossip. So I look forward to my next visit on business so I can get out for a good stroll around the village, to work up an appetite for the Big Breakfast.

We previously stayed here in December 2018 - the weekend of hurricane Deirdre.We found it so warm and welcoming in the austere weather. So much so that we decided w would visit again in 2019. so this was our return visit.Wow the newly refurbished King size room was great. The bed comfortable. The welcome was amazing and the warmth of the atmosphere on out arrival was good.We look after our grandchildren and this was a welcome break in which to 'chill'. So 19th - 23rd of August was our dates.Ehr food was excellent with a good menu to choose from, and if you drink gin - 40 different kinds - my wife who drinks little got hooked on the strewberry and ginger - with ginger!!! Me there were so many different lakeland ales to choose from.The breakfast menu was si,ple and straightforward - me I enjoyed the full english and my wife scrambled egg on toast plus mushrooms which were nit on the menu but added without a problem. Well supplied with pots of coffee as well - a strict demand in my case.All of the staff were amazing and helpful - Emma one of the proprietors had a warm greeting for everyone - James {her partner} we ssaw little of as hebeevered in the Kitchen producing the excellent quality food. Every meal individually prepared and cooked unlike some of thr big chains where it goes straight from freezer to microwave. Still being patient gave the opportunity to sample the wines from their wine list.We have recommended a number of friends through the last 7 months and none of them have they have all been full of praise.Looking forward to our nexr Cumbrian break - guess where - The Oddfellows Arms, Caldbeck. So easy to get to from our home city - just over 2.5 hours drive.ROOM 12 here we come again!!{soon I hope}

The Oddfellows was the perfect place to spend the last night of our Cumbria Way walk. The staff were extremely attentive and very friendly and the twin room we stayed in was very clean and comfortable. My only complaint would be that the shower was very weak. The food however was amazing! We had the lamb shank and the drunk cow steak and ale pie and both were incredibly good. The best food on the trip and we’ve eaten well the whole way! The cooked breakfast in the morning was also superb. I would definitely recommend the Oddfellows to anyone staying in Caldbeck. Book a table for dinner though as it was very busy when we were there.

We stayed a night after walking from Carlisle and enjoyed a clean and comfortable room. It was quite and the bed was soft. No WiFi in room, but fibe in bar. What struck us was the quality of the staff. We thought Mike was fabulous and really an example to how hospitality everywhere should be. The man with the beard at breakfast was so chirpy and smiling at that time of day and the lady with the amazing tattoo on her back was an angel. Thank you for a fabulous stay and start to our Cumbria Way.

A very warm welcoming atmosphere as we arrived early Friday evening. Group of friendly locals at the bar made us feel at home. Their dog liked us!Shown to our room by bar staff, it was what we expected of a Country in - nearr clean and well presented and despite the 2 degree tempreature outside was nice and warm. After settling in we rrepaired to the bar for some refreshment - a wide choice if gin for gin drinkers and wonderful real ale by Jennings. We had a nice corner table for our evening meal which was very good, I had soup(which I almost always do) and my wife chase from the menu. We both had the Beef and ale pie which was delicious and very filling. We had to wait for our curses as each dish was freshly prepared. Found a very nicechilean merslot to wash it all down with.Breakfast was very good - full English set us up for the the day (storm Deidre included) spent a great morning in Keswick Christmas shopping and ony when we stopped for a light lunch did Deidre close i. We moved on to Penrith and, as the weather was so cold moved back to the Oddfellows Armas whre we spent a pleasant couple of hours i the bar - warming our innards with a single malt(me) and my wife tried one the the many gins.Staff warm and friendly, nothing too much trouble. James and Emma the proprietors were very welcoming, they have only been there for 11 months and are working to upgrade the establishment - a large task. They were pleasant friendly and genuiney wanted to give us a good experience. The Bar and restaurant were very homely and the rooms comfortable. looking forward to seeing the further improvements when we visit again in 2019.Jame food is amazing - had a curry to die for. An Indonesian beef- James is a chef with international experience and Emma is an amazing hostess.Great value for money and first class food.

Whilst the accommodation was well up to the standard I would expect for the price. I was disappointed that the bar staff started cleaning the beer pipes at half past eight, as no other customers were in the restaurant or bar. This gave me the impression they wanted me to leave as well.As the television in my room was not working and nobody seemed interested in fixing it, this made for a long and boring evening. However the breakfast was excellent.

This seemed to be the place everyone was staying if walking the Cumbria way that week. We were actually a male and female travelling as friends so were very glad of the single occupancy option without a heavy cost. Happy with food and beer (there's a decent choice of food for vegetarians and meat-eaters and staff were lovely with our various questions), and although the rooms were 'tired', it meant I didn't feel bad about my slightly dirty rucksack etc and the most important bit - the bed - was just lovely. Parking easy if needed and there's even petrol available in the village. Don't expect glamour but it's definitely an enjoyable option with a nice pub in a nice village.

We stayed only 2 nights to attend a wedding, although we had booked dinner, because of changes to the wedding pre party we did not end up having it although we were a bit disappointed as the menu looked very good, would not fault the staff nor the selection of drinks and beers on offer. We did have breakfast which I thought was excellent and the service by all the girls was good. And then there's Helen, what an absolute diamond, nothing was to much trouble, helpful, knowledgeable and a brilliant bar maid, we can't praise her enough, if every pub had one of her they would be full every night. The room I'm afraid was not that good, small and cluttered, tired, very tired, ok I suppose if you just want to crash for a night, or if you are a walker and don't care about the finer things, because there are none.I rate the pub and staff 5 star, the rooms maybe 2.

Conveniently located on the Cumbrian Way, this old inn offers spacious, comfortable rooms – if a bit dear – and good pub food with a choice of Jennings ales. Friendly staff. I just wished they had been able to give us the correct stop for the Wednesday bus to Carlisle, which we missed because they gave us the wrong information. We expected a pub to know such information in such a small village, especially as they cater for walkers who may well need that bus service. No-one else in the village seemed to know either. Luckily two amazing elderly local ladies took us in their car to chase the bus which we managed to catch at Dalston!!!! Please please make sure you can give such info to your guests in the future.
